Instant Idli’s, Instant Joy

She was waiting for them. Their brief meeting had left her yearning for more. Of course she was not happy. She knew there were many who would agree with her feelings. It had been at least a few weeks since she had last seen them.

Today, when Samohi looked out of the window while making her cup of tea in the morning, she saw them. Dark and huge, they sure were a treat to the sore eyes. A thrill of excitement ran down her spine.. They had appeared unannounced and were totally unexpected! A series of emotions raced through mind. Pandemic had given her and her husband a hard time. He had to work for ungodly number of hours. Silently, they had been longing for a welcome break. The routine was incredibly boring. But their unannounced appearance had enticed her crazy. And she just had an idea about how to make her husband go crazy, along with her. She looked into her cupboard and found what she was looking for.

The passion ran through her body and she worked with zeal, making all the necessary items that would act either as an accompaniment or as a part of the meal. The clouds rumbled and growled, sending shivers done everybody’s spine. But Samohi was at ease and peace. The clouds had gathered and had created a theatrical effect. It had all become very dark and had started raining heavily. Finally lunch was ready. And just in time.

The downpour was just as she had anticipated. When she announced lunch, her husband groggily came to the dining room. But soon his mood lit up. His eyes sparkled with joy! Steaming, white and soft pieces of delectable idlis, were waiting to be devoured. He loved homemade hot and soft idlis especially when it was pouring like this. He looked lovingly at his wife. They decided to have lunch in the balcony. They enjoyed watching slashing rains, the howling, cold winds and the piping hot, mouth melting idlis. It was an afternoon to remember. They both enjoyed and cherished such small changes.
Samohi silently thanked Dhanashree Gruh Udyog, for she always helped her at times like these! The need for soaking and grinding and fermenting rice and daals was done away, for good. Yet, they had the gharwali soft idlis ready in no time.
